Mafoa Ae Ata

Mafoa Ae Ata means "promise of a new day."At Mapu Maia we breathe life into this concept by holding safe spaces for our people to talanoa, share, and connect. For example, we recently trialled an innovative therapeutic approach, conducting group sessions within the traditional setting of faikava.

A culturally significant practice involving the communal drinking of kava. In doing so, we provided a unique and culturally familiar platform for Pasifika men, an otherwise difficult group to engage – to express vulnerability and build resilience.

Kava has always been a great tool that our ancestors used to connect with each other. This initiative helped us connect, heal and assist with each other's wellbeing.

The Tanoa has always been the original social media, to laugh, cry, and sit with the brothers was all we needed after the week.
